Domaine Genoux / Château de la Mérande

" What is missing in Savoir to play in the court of great wines ?
Perhaps more areas like the Château de Mérande in Arbin... More areas that think of something other than satisfying the convenience stores of winter sports resorts. No more winemakers who dare to compete with international competition in markets as crowded as Japan, Canada or the United States...
No more Savoyards proud of their Mondeuse, their Highness, their Jackfruit, and who, rather than pouring themselves into the mold, seek to magnify its character."

Presentation of the domaine and its history

Château de Mérande is located in Arbin in the heart of a region whose origins do not backt to yesterday. Vestiges found in 1870 on the estate attest to the presence of viticulture in Roman times. It belongs to the class of large estates in this region.

Established for 5 generations in Arbin in the heart of the Combe de Savoie, André and Daniel Genoux manage with strenght and conviction twelve hectares of biodynamic vines.
It is with this heritage and in love with courage that compels the admiration that the Genoux family, generation after generation, has succeeded in perpetuating the cultivation of the vine in these so difficult to work soils. They were joined by Pierre, Daniel's son in November 2019.

The Vineyard

On these so atypical soils, the domain gives birth to vibrant wines of lengh, freshness and personality. This domain which proves to us that the wines of Savoy can unquestionably measure themselves against the great.
tand and respect life and the humans to be able to express the vey best from the soil.

In the vineyard, the entire estate is carried out in organic farming, Ecocert certified since 2009 and also drives according to the principles of biodynamics. The vine is considered here as a living being connected to the cosmos. All vineyard work is carried out with the aim of preserving the surrounding natural environnement (terraces, hedges and groves) in order to safeguard biodiversity in the heart of the vineyards.

No weedkiller or other pesticides are used so that the terroir expresses itself in its purest personality in grapes. Biodynamic preparations of plant, mineral or animal type are spread on the soil or on the vine at specific times depending on the cycle of the vine and in relation to a lunar and planetary calendar. The soils are plowed with a caterpillar, winch or animal traction.

All this work turns out to be colossal when you realize the elevation on the hillsides where the vine have taken root. But all these efforts are not without reward since the wines forcefully express the identity of these great terroirs.

In the cellar, an important is carried out during the harvest in order to obtain perfectly ripe grapes in the cellar. The vinification are then traditional, little interventionist, in indigenous yeasts and without any input, in order to preserve the typicity of each terroir. Vinification takes place at low temperature without SO2, with skin maceration. Malots are sought as much as possible.
The aging in mainly in barrels for the red and in barrels for some whites. The wine are then unflitered for the reds but slightly fined and filtered for the whites.
