Le Vignoble

Winegrowers from father to son since 1620, the Humbrecht family cultivates vines in the great terroirs of Alsace. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht was created in 1959 and today operates (40 ha) of vines, spread across the Grands Crus of Rangen in Thann (5.5 Clos Saint-Urbain), Goldert in Gueberschwihr ; as well as in the single vineryards of Rotenberg (1,8 ha) and Clos Häuserer (1,2 ha) terroirs in Wintzenheim ; Herrenweg (11,5 ha), Clos Jebsal (1,3 ha) and Heimbourg (4 ha) from Turckheim and Clos Windsbuhl (5.15 ha in Hunawihr.

Our Philosophy :

The expression of the terroir, though the characteristic grape varieties of Alsace, is reinforced by the cultivation of the vine according to the principles of biodynamics, as well as cellar practices respectful of the work accomplished in the vineyard. Respect for the life or the soil requires the will of the entire team of 22 winegrowers working in the field to perform most of the work manually, to carry out the necessary work of plowing, tillng and specific handling of the vine and to reduce the weignt of tools - or even the use of animal traction - as well as the compost produced on the estate. Obtaining ripe, balanced, concentrated and lively grapes makes it possible to avoid all techniques aimed at modifying the initial harmony of each terroir. Fermentation is slow and the wines stay at least 6 months on total lees. The bottling takes place 12 to 24 months after the harvest.
The average yield/ ha in 35 hl / ha and varies according to the vintage. Annual production is between 12,000 and 16,000 cases. Since 1992, the cellars and operating buildings of the Zind-Humbrecht estate have been located on the Route de Colmar in Tirckheim, in the heart of the Herrenweg vineyard.
