Presentation of the domain and its history
The Château de La Selve was at first a stronghold at the border of the empire and the French kingdom. It bacame later a hunting lodge that belonged to a famous Vivarais family : the dukes of Joyeuse, before it became, over the centuries, a farm.
Dating back from the XIIIth century, its architecture is typical of the houses and castles frome the South Vivarais.
Located on the banks of the Chassezac, main Ardèche affluent, it benefits from an exceptional and protected environment. In 1990, this beautiful castle became Benoît's parent's property : Jean-Régis and Magdeleine Chazallon.
The Castle finds then, a family, touristic and agricultural function.
Today five "Gîtes de France" (2 to 5 people) located in one the Castle's aisle, in the middle of a great park, offers a relaxing havent of peace in the heart of the touristic Ardèche.
The winemaker's philosophy
Benoît's family history had him predestined to work in the wine industry, his ancestors, the Delas, are a great winegrower's family from the Rhône valley, so as a teenager, he spent a great part of his free time to work on the vineyards of wineries of the Rhône Valley.
As a result, after high school (Ecole viticole de Beaune). He desired to study in Burgundy, where the concept of terroir is, historically, the most precise and developed.
In 2002, thanks to his parents, he fulfilled his dream : create a wine estate in Sothern Ardèche where he knows that's smells of scrubland, humus and truffles...!
He practices today a viticulture that preserves the environment and allows the expression of his terroir. In order to achieve that, he always works to make his soil more lively and, in the winery to have purer wines that express the typicity and characteristics of his terrroir.
