Château Fonroque was bought in 1931 by Adèle and Jean Moueix. Alain Moueix, their great grandson, has been at the head of the estate since 2001. He introduced there a way of working based on a deep respect for the environment, leading to be certified in organic viticulture since 2006 and biodynamics since 2008.
In 2017, the estate was bought by the Guillard Family. Conscious of the value in continuing to practise this essential work, the new owners have asked Alain Moueix to remain as an active consultant in the management of the estate over the coming years.
The vineyards are a mosaic, composed of the three major soil types found in Saint-Emilion. In order to be more precise during the blending and to reveal our terroir, we are bulding a new vat room, which will receive smaller tanks allowing us to bring a refined touch to the final blending.
Winemarker's Philosophy
In 2002, the decision to go biodynamic was a break with the norm, an adventure, an intellectual endeavour. Today it is a serene obviousness backed up by study and intuition.
